You may have heard "look for weird hands or glitches." Here is the honest part: that advice is becoming unreliable, because the fakes keep getting better and the glitches keep disappearing. A glitch can occasionally be a hint, but a clean, glitch-free image proves nothing. Trying to judge by how real something looks is a losing game. The more dependable defense is not about the image at all; it is about the source:
• Where did this actually come from? A random repost is not a source.
• Do trusted outlets confirm it? If something big supposedly happened, reliable news sources would be reporting it too.
• Does it feel designed to trigger a strong reaction or urgent action? That is a classic sign to slow down and check.
Source-checking is the best habit, but it is not a magic detector. You may also start to see "AI-generated" labels or "content credentials" attached to some media, which can hint at where it came from. Do not rely on them yet, though: they are often missing, and they can be stripped away when media is re-shared.
