StudyQuest Academy (“StudyQuest”, “we”) is a free learning platform for students in grades 6–12. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can and we do not sell personal information.
You can start learning without signing up. When you do, your progress and preferences are stored on your own device (in your browser’s local storage), not on our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them.
If you create an account to sync across devices, we store your email address, a securely hashed password, and an account role (student, parent, teacher) through our authentication provider. We also ask for your first name, your country (and your state if you are in the United States), and your grade: grades 6–12, pre-college, or college. We use these details to address you by name in the messages we send you, to help troubleshoot problems you run into, and to understand in aggregate which grades and regions use StudyQuest. Your last name is optional, and your display name can be a nickname. We do not require a home address, a phone number, or a school name.
If you ask for teacher or parent access, we also require your last name so we can review the request. You can change any of these details in Settings at any time. Your first name, country, state (United States), and grade can be changed but not removed while your account is open; to have your account and its data deleted, email us. Signed-in progress and saved work are stored so they are available on your other devices.
When you use the AI tutor, the questions and text you enter are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. Please do not enter personal information (full names, addresses, phone numbers, school details) into the tutor. The tutor is a study aid; it explains and coaches and does not do the work for a student.
If you ask for something by email, such as the free 7-Day Study Reset, or send feedback, we use your email address only to send what you requested and to reply. You can unsubscribe from any non-essential email at any time.
We use a small number of services to run and improve the site:
We share data only with the providers that help us operate StudyQuest, and only as needed to run the service: Supabase (accounts and saved data), Anthropic (AI tutor), Google Analytics and Vercel (hosting and analytics), Upstash (rate limiting), hCaptcha (bot protection), Sentry (error monitoring), Resend (email delivery), Sanity (blog content), and Mapbox (the history timeline map). We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
StudyQuest is designed for middle and high school students, so some users are under 13. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service, an account is optional, and the core learning path works without one. The only details an account requires are an email address, first name, country, state (United States), and grade. Parents and guardians can email us to review or delete a child’s account and data. We ask students not to share personal details with the AI tutor.
We keep account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and delete it on request. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, though no online service can guarantee absolute security.
We may update this policy as StudyQuest evolves. We will change the “last updated” date above when we do, and significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
