Woodrow Wilson served as the 28th President of the United States (1913-1921). He initially kept America neutral during World War I with the slogan "He kept us out of war," but after Germany resumed unrestricted submarine warfare and the Zimmermann Telegram was revealed, he asked Congress to declare war in April 1917. Wilson presented his Fourteen Points as a plan for lasting peace, including the creation of a League of Nations to resolve international disputes. Although the Treaty of Versailles included the League, the U.S. Senate refused to join it. Wilson received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1919 for his efforts.
