Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Party and dictator of Germany from 1933 to 1945. Born in Austria, he rose to power during Germany's economic crisis by blaming Jews and other minorities for the nation's problems. He used propaganda, fear, and violence to establish a totalitarian regime. Hitler started World War II by invading Poland in 1939 and was responsible for the Holocaust, the systematic murder of six million Jews and millions of others. His ideology of racial supremacy and antisemitism caused immeasurable suffering. He died by suicide in his Berlin bunker on April 30, 1945, as Allied forces closed in.
