James Madison is called the "Father of the Constitution" for his central role in drafting the document and the Bill of Rights. He co-wrote The Federalist Papers with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay to promote ratification. As the fourth President (1809–1817), he led the nation through the War of 1812.
