Rosa Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat to a white passenger on December 1, 1955, became one of the pivotal moments in the Civil Rights Movement. Her arrest sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which lasted 381 days and led to a Supreme Court ruling that bus segregation was unconstitutional. She continued to work for racial justice throughout her life.
