Function Table & Graph
Try this first: type a rule in terms of x (for example 2*x+1), enter x-values in the table, then use Compute f(x) column (or wait a moment, the table refills when the rule is valid). Watch the orange points and the indigo curve stay aligned when your table truly describes a function.
Pairs with the Functions & Patterns (Grade 8) topic: tables, f(x) notation, and the vertical line test.
Uses the same safe parser as the graphing calculator (variable x only). Implicit multiply works: 2x, 3(x+1).
Input–output table
| x | f(x) | |
|---|---|---|
Max 30 rows. Fill x, then compute or type y. Same x with two different y values is not a function.
Plot
Orange dots: table points. Indigo curve: your rule over the current window (auto-fits from data; use Fit after zoom).
About the function table & graph
The function lab connects the three ways functions are represented: a rule, a table, and a graph. Enter a rule for f(x), choose input values, and the tool fills the outputs and plots the matching points and curve together.
Seeing the table and graph side by side makes ideas like input/output, linear vs. nonlinear, and rate of change concrete, the core of Grade 8 functions and a foundation for algebra.
